Silicone potting compound refers to a two-component electronic potting adhesive made of silicone rubber. Silicone potting compounds are typically soft and elastic. There are many types of silicone potting compounds, with significant differences in temperature resistance, waterproof performance, insulation performance, optical performance, adhesion to different materials, and hardness. Silicone potting compounds can be formulated with functional fillers to provide properties such as electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, and magnetic permeability. The mechanical strength of silicone potting compounds is generally relatively low, and it is precisely because of this characteristic that it is "breakable" for easy maintenance—meaning if a component fails, you simply pry out the potting compound and replace the component with a new one. After repotting, you can continue using it. The color of the silicone potting adhesive can generally be customized as needed: transparent, opaque, or colored. Silicone potting compounds perform exceptionally well in terms of shock resistance, electrical properties, waterproofing, high and low temperature resistance, and anti-aging performance. Two-component silicone potting compounds are the most common, including condensation-cure and addition-cure types. Generally, the condensation-cure type has poor adhesion to components and potting housings, generates volatile low-molecular-weight substances during curing, and exhibits noticeable shrinkage after curing. The addition-cure type (also known as silicone gel) has a very low shrinkage rate and releases no low-molecular-weight byproducts during curing. It can be cured rapidly by heating.
